Can anyone help me please

Hi, I am new here and has a 21 years old daughter. My father has type 2 diabetes. Both my wife and I didn't really pay much attention when my daughter is young because I think Diabetes type 1 not get from parents/grand parents

My daughter had blood work done on year 2000 when she was 11 years, fasting clucose was 88.

She aslo has another blood work done on year 2006 when she was 17 years old and believe or not I just read that report two days ago since doctor never call us and I visited office for me and accidently read it, and her clucose was 119.

Before she go to college on 2007, I bought here life insurance and she get best rate and report on the clucose shows invild due to..., urine clocose was nagative.

I start worrying three days ago after I seen the report did on year 2006 (she was 17 that year). My daughter was scare blood and I remember very clearly she was so neverous on 2006 during blood drawn, her face was pale and so nurse didn't even finish all the blood drawn doctor ordered. I am not sure if she had period suring that time.

During last 3 years, she never had another check, and gain 10-15 lbs too. Per my knowledge, she don't pee often and never pee at night. Do feel hungry even missed lunch or dinner few hours.

What my questions are:

1. what is a chance she has diabetes?
2. I heard young adult usually get type 1. If get it, sympton is very serious. is that true? If yes, can I exclude my daughter has at least no type 1. I know check is required and she just back to schoool and my wife don't want me to brother her.
3. If someone has type 1 diabetes, without medication for 4 years, it is no way unknow it right?

I am very worried now and has only one child. I appreciate any help, info and suggestion you can provideed to me.

Thanks first.

Thanks again. I told my daughter this afternoon and said you have two insurance now: one from school and one from my work, why not use it. She said OK.

God bless her.

I will update it once I get her result back.

I understand. Please don't worry because Diabetes (of either type) is a condition that can be managed once you learn something about it. If she is diagnosed type 2 (which is more likely) she will be asked to change her diet and exercise and perhaps be started on an oral medication. Sometimes just losing excess weight can make a big difference in blood sugars.

Thinking of type 1 as children and type 2 as adult is out of date. I am type 1 diagnosed at age 58! Also many children are now diagnosed with type 2.

Don't worry, but do get her tested. You are not "bothering her" you are caring for her by doing this. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks very much. I will try to tell her to do the test in a proper way.

I scared to death last few days because worry her may have type 1 since most person say child has type 1.

I am 50 years old now and has only one child. I love her more than my life. She is such good kids and was ranked no. 1 in the high school and just get a job offer one year before her college gradution. I just cann't image how she and I can face it if that is fact.

Thanks again.

You are correct that nobody could survive having Type 1 for four years without treatment. However, your daughter's fasting glucose was was 119 which is in the pre-diabetes range. Young people also get Type 2 and there are more and more of those all the time. Her weight gain would more indicate type 2 than type 1. Since it has been four years since she was tested with pre-diabetes numbers it is time for another test.
