My son of 20 just had a biopsy on his liver which is swollen. The report showed that it is due to type 1 diabetes or build up of insulin in the liver. We have an appointment with a liver speacialist this week.Has anyone heard of this before and how is it treated. His blood sugar is very irregular.

I am the mother of a son with type 1 diabetes, diagnosed eighteen years ago. While I am not a medical person, I have never heard of this condition before.  I'm glad to hear that your son is going to a liver specialist.  You didn't say how long he has had diabetes or if he was recently diagnosed.
If you are seeing an endocrinoligist who specializes in type 1 diabetes, he or she will be able to provide the best information on what may be going on.  They will also provide information on how to best control his blood sugars.
Please contact us when you get the liver test results.  We will try to help support you in any way we can. From personal experience, JDRF has been very helpful to myself and son.
Best of luck.

Thank you very much for your response.  Tanner was 15 when he was diagnoised.  This is very rare.  His endocrinologist was surprise by the test results also. The test did show that the liver was not damaged.  Which we were pleased to hear. Thank you again for your good wishes.

I am very happy to hear that Tanner's liver was not damaged. Feel free to contact us anytime you have any questions that we can help with.  My son also had irregular blood sugars and I know how frustrating that can be.
