Flu Vaccine

I'm 21 and have been diagnosed as a Type 1 just over a year ago. My average HBA1C is around 7 and I am very active and have no let my diabetes stop me from doing anything.
Just recently, my levels have been way out of range. I'd wake up in the range of 5-6(100-120) and within an hr or so after eating my usual breakfast and taking my relevant insulin, my levels would be around 17(140). The only thing I can think for this is about 4 weeks ago I got the flu vaccine for the 1st time. In the last week or so the weather has got a lot colder and I possibly might have got the flu. I have similar symptom. I was able to control my Blood Sugar for 4 months. Then I had Flu Shot last October. Right after that day, my BS has been erratic. I am very strict on my diet, and I have not change my diet. So, I can only think that Flu Shot affected my BS control.

it sounds like you are really paying attention to your care and I commend you for that.  It's not easy being 21 and having a life and managing diabetes.  I'm not a doctor, but your blood sugars don't sound "way " out of range.  I know you would like that 140 to be a little closer to the 100, but at least they are not in the 200's.  In my experience as a diabetic, there are so many variables that can affect blood sugar, including illness, exercise, food, stress, etc. that it is sometimes hard to identify the exact cause.  I would wait a few more days and keep moinitoring your insulin, food and activity and blood sugars and if things don't go in the right direction, call your doctor and have him or her adjust your insulin dose. Sometimes, your body just changes and you need a little more insulin.  Keep up the good work and keep paying attention to your diabetes while enjoying your life!
