Want Week 38 C-section

I have Type 2 Diabetes and am currently 26 weeks pregnant on Insulin with my second child. I had an induction the day before my due date failed and lead to c-section with my first child on the due date. Baby came out rather large.

I am due Monday October 22nd. I want to have this baby on the beginning of Week 38. Exactly 14 days before this child is due.

My question is.... Is it safe and ok for the baby to have a schedule C-section on the beginning of week 38 if you are insulin dependent Diabetic?????????

Yes, I have already talk to my OB/GYN and he does NOT want to do it on the date I want because of one other woman who did the same thing and baby came out not fine. My argument is that not all women/ pregnancies are the same. He doesn't to do an Amniocentisis because it is risky and expensive.

Now What??

Go to a High Risk prenatal Dr they are the ones that will do the Amnio. Do the AMnio right when you are 38 weeks and if it comes back that your little peanut's lungs are developed they will schedule you your c-section. I had the same thing happen I wanted to schedule mine at 37 but the amnio came back neg for developed lungs... so we waited another week adn did another Amnio and it was ok so we scheduled the c-section for the following morning. My daughter was estimated to be 10 lbs but she was 8.5 and was healthy and so beautiful =) Congrats and I hope everything turns out ok!

Your ob/gyn usually will deny any kind of procedure like that because they think it is elective.. bt the high risk Dr will do it they are smart and they have you and your baby in mind. Let's be honest some ob/gyns are just plain simple minded! Not to say yours is.. but for it to say that they won't do a procedure because it is expensive is a little demeaning and disrespectful. You deserve better!!

I definatley had to respond to this one!  I am 40 y/o type 1 & 2 diabetic.  My beautiful girl is now 5.  I was a diabetic since 16 and got a pump during pregnancy.
My OB said he was going to deliver the baby 2 weeks early because there was a greater risk of stillbirth the last 2 weeks of pregnancy.  He did his internship in a hospital that dealth with hight risk pregnancies.
Good enough for me.
PLEASE GET ANOTHER DOCTOR'S OPINION!
Make sure your doctor is a specialist in diabetic pregnancies.

I had been diabetic for approx. 15 years when i got pregnant with my son.  I am very suprised to hear that ur ob wont schedule the c section for 38 weeks...I knew almost from the middle of the pregnancy that we were going to schedule for the c at 38 weeks because they didnt want the baby to get too large ....I had everything scheduled for 38 weeks but because I developed toxemia..they ended up doing the c section at 37 weeks....My babys lungs were a tiny bit underdeveloped but a couple days in the hospital and he was fine.  THe ob said that at 38 weeks he would have been totally developed and there wouldnt have been any problems.  I would seek a second opinion too...u may think that its too late in ur pregnancy to change ob/gyns and its not worth the hassle but I think it is for you and the babys sake.
I wish u the best of luck....

I am very surprised that your OB/GYN will not do an amniocentisis to find out when your baby's lungs are properly developed. In my two pregnancies, this was the routine, and as soon as lungs were developed, the doctors either induced labor or would do a C-section so as not to leave the baby in the womb long enough for late term possible damage to occur (many doctors want their diabetic patients to deliver early because higher-than-normal glucose levels can cause the placenta to be damaged at the end of the pregnancy so it cannot fully nourish the baby). I truly would ask another OB/GYN for a second opitnion,

I am not a physician, but the mom of a type one diabetic and the daughter of a type2.  I would suggest you talk to your endocrinologist and get his/ her opinion.  If she feels that it is the right thing you could have your doctors talk to each other.  Maybe they will compomise.  But you must remember to do what is best for the baby.  The baby might need the extra time in the womb to fully develop lungs heart etc.

I am sorry I could not be of more help
