I have type one diabetes and am now 21. I don't know if you already have an insulin pump or have looked into getting one but when I got mine my blood sugars were everywhere and my Hemoglobin A1Cs were terrible but after getting it all my results ended up within a person without diabetes' range.
Just an idea to help you if you haven't already tried it.
My 44 yr. old. husband is a type I brital diabetic.
He started on an insulin pump approx. 6 yrs. ago.and brought his A1C from 9.4 to
8.4. He now has glucose monitoring sensors that send glucose readings to the pump
288 times a day. His A1C is today 7.6. He's been on the sensors since Nov 19, '07.
Hello, Debi. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. I'm also not type 1 myself, but I've met many type 1s, both adult and youth. Maintaining good control is a challenge for everyone, some are better at it than others.
What do you think is your most difficult area? Counting carbs? Portion size? Determining the proper insulin to carb ratios? We can provide advice in any areas you'd like to get better at with management.
There are lots of brital Type 1 diabetics out there. You are not alone at all. I am not a brital diabetic but from what I have read here and other places a set regular schedule is the most effective way to help brital diabetics. Especially ones like you that have good control. Eat on a regular schedule and and test on a regular schedule and be very consistant with what you eat and when you eat it.
