Good luck. Hope everything works out. On a side note, after 8 years I switched from 500 mg of Metformin to 2.5 mg of Glipzide 1xdaily. My fasting levels not only stabilized but came down to what I expected, <120 mg/dl. This morning it was 109 mg/dl. My doc has seen this with other patients too.
Thanks, yes bedtime is fine. Maybe it is the metformin. Thanks for your help. I am seeing my doc Weds.
Should add, the 3 possibilities mentioned in the prior post references someone with normal bedtime levels. You mentioned, "During the day, they are perfect.", but are you testing also at bedtime to ensure you're not going to sleep with above normal levels?
Three possibilities I can think of are:
1.) It could be related to Dawn Phenomenom, the the term used to describe an early morning [usually between 2 a.m. and 8 am] increase in blood sugars. In anticipation of energy your body needs upon awakening the liver dumps glycogen [stored sugars [glucose]]. With DP, the liver dumps excess glycogen.
2.) If injecting insulin at bedtime it could be related to Symogi Effect where the body is rebounding with high blood sugars in response to low blood sugars.
3.) If taking Metformin, Metformin can be the culprit as it was with me.
