My 79-yo father has diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma in both eyes. He had a successful glaucoma procedure on the right eye last year. When healed up, docs starting injecting Avastin into his eyes, one injection in each eye. I have since discovered that this is not FDA approved for injection into the eyes, but only FDA approved for colorectal chemopatients. Dad has had lazer treatment which left him with severe damage in his eyes years, ago. I know about the FDA approved injection into the eyes called Macugen (I think that is the spelling), but it costs $2,000 or more for one injection. Is there is anything at this point to help regain some vision in his eyes. He is 79 and this is getting worse and worse. Any expertise advise for this severe condition would be very appreciated. Also, is there any research on creating eyeballs for transplant in severe situations as this. I am interested any infor from any part of the world.
Thank you, Kathy
