When to talk to my doc or go to the ER

Today my blood sugar has been having alot of problems, i'm a 22 year old with steroid induced diabetes and my blood sugar has been in the lows of 42-60, I ate and had some glucose gel which brought it into the 80's but about an hour later it dropped again to 42 where I had symptoms of extreme hunger, shakiness, heaviness in my legs and sweating.

I'm worried its going to crash into the night and I could go into a diabetic coma during sleep, if thats possible?

Bottom line is that you and your doctor don't seem to be managing your diabetes very well. I think you probably need a bit more medical expertise in treating DM2 than a "general practitioner" can provide. I recommend you seek medical advise from an Internal Medicine specialist with expertise in treating DM2 or an endocrinologist.

People on this site really want to help you stay healthy and manage your DM2. We sometime come at you very directly to let you know the potential seriousness of uncontrolled DM2--it can kill or cripple you. Get use to it--we care about you.

What did I say to offend you? Please reread your post for when you say, "I am taking medications for it...glipizide or some type of pill like that" infers to not knowing. What kind of statement is "some kind of pill like that!" And that's what I questioned. The quality and quantity of information in your post is the only thing we can go by. Saying to you to call your doctor today came at you the wrong way? Sorry, I will ignore further posts from you.

I know exactly what I am taking, how much and when I was told to take it and I have followed exactly what it says.

I was diagnosed because my blood sugar was in the 200-300's on a daily basis and my general practitioner made the decision to start me on the pills.

I don't like the way you came at me WaveRider

Good sound advice from Zoe.

"Glipizide or some type of pill like that" Glipizide is a long acting glucose reducing medicine for type 2 diabetics. You're popping something you have no clue about? Sorry, but you should know exactly what you're taking, how much you're taking and when you were told to take a medicine.

"I was just diagnosed."
Who? How? If your glucose is dropping like this it appears you were misdiagnosed. Call your doctor today and demand to see him/her to find out the cause(s) of your crash. As you know, it is dangerous and can lead to coma unless treated properly.

I would definitely go see your doctor as he needs to evaluate your medication and what is causing you to have hypoglycemia. I suggest you call the office today and tell them what has been happening and I would expect they would want you to come in soon and may tell you to stop taking the medication right away.

I am taking medications for it...glipizide or some type of pill like that at noon time, I was just diagnosed.  Last night right before bed it went from 80 to 45 within 30 minutes with symptoms of major sweating, nausea, etc.

The fact that it dropped that low an hour after treating is a cause for concern. Yes, I would see your doctor right away or go to the ER if you can't your blood sugar stable. You need to tell people near you what the warning signs are of hypoglycemia and to give you the glucose gel if you are disoriented. If you are not able to respond and swallow though they shouldn't try and give you anything but should call 911. You don't say if you are taking any medications. If so, and especially if it is insulin, it could be too high a dose for you and needs to be evaluated right away.

There is a very knowledgeable person on this board named waverider and I hope he will read your post and add to my comments. I had a serious episode of hypoglycemia recently and I know it can be scary. It sounds like you handled it well but don't hesitate to get help. Better to be safe.
