The A1c can be taken anytime. No fasting is required.
Your odd readings may be caused from:
Age of your meter
Defective meter
* test w/another meter right after the 1st one. Compare the
readings
Calibration, if any, to the test strips inaccurate
Wet or dirty fingertips
bapenut is right. Cheese should not make your sugaer level rise that high but, you truly need to wait 2 hours after any meal to get your true readin after meals. The A1C test is the best way to go and it's a simple blood test. Don't worrry about anything until you get this test done.
Keep ckecking. The only answer is to see your DR and get a fasting A1C..normal people blood sugars go up that high but should always be below 140 2 hrs after a mean if they are normal. 97 is completely normal for a non Diabetic. Cheese would not usually make it go to 202 so if it runs in your family I'd check it. BEST answer is if you don't see a DR try and eat some high carbs or lots of sugar and if after 2 hrs it is over 140 that would mean pre- Diabetic...Good luck. Any other signs, like thirsty all the time? peeing in the middle of the night allot? Fatigue, weight gain or loss all of a sudden? Craving food all the time? If so SEE A DR
