Is Gall bladder removal such a good idea afterall?

Hi,
My mother has about 3 or more Gallstones and the since the diagnosis, we have been doing a lot of research on treatment options.
Given that surgical removal of the Gallbladder doesnt actually rule out the possibility of getting the gall stones again (only not in the gall bladder), is it such a good idea then if there is no inflammation?
ALso what are the potential risks of the olive oil treatment a lot of people are raving about?
Thanks

Dr. Erik, I would have asked the same question you did, had I not done a little research to answer BRANDEE's question: "What do I do now", posted on 9/15/2001!

I looked in my old medical book (see BRANDEE's question for details!!!), and found that it is possible, AFTER A GALL BLADDER HAS BEEN SURGICALLY REMOVED, that a "cystic duct stump" might enlarge and "serve as a site for new gallstone formation..."!!!

It's been a long time since I was a nurse, and gallbladder info was not my specialty, so a good Gastro doc should be consulted!

Hopefully, some patients & others who know more about this than I do can give some helpful advice too!

Sincerely,
Concerned lady,  ***@****    and website   http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com
