Pain in abdomen and has started to locate to back area

A friend of mine was experiencing pain in his abdomen last night and was taken to the emergency room to see if there was a possibility of appendicitis.  The doctor's said that he did not have any other symptoms of appendicitis, and sent him home to get a prescription from the pharmacy.  They said if it did not get better in a few days to come back and they would go from there.  Well this morning he woke up with slightly less pain the abdomen, but now the majority of the pain has gone to his lower back.  What could this be signs of?  Should he go back to the ER as soon as possible?

Pain if located in the center of stomach going towards the back is usually because of Pancreatitis .Pain in the loins/flanks going to the back or groin is kidney in origin.Pain mostly in the back may be musculoskeletal gynaecological or even of disorders like aortic anurysms.

For about three months I have had severe pains under my chest and on my right side.  This usually occurs at night but can last through the next day.  I have had several tests done before they decided it must be acid reflex disease.  My doctor has advised me to eat mostly protein foods and cut out carbohydrates.  I try to follow this eating habit but find it difficult.  I have been on and off different prescriptions.  Yet I still find myself in pain at times.  At first they thought it was kidney stones or a diseased gallbladder.  Come to find out through all of my tests doctors can not seem to see my gallbladder.  Well I guess they are satisfied for now but where does that leave me.  I don't want to experience these pains for the rest of my life!

Great question, and one with very few answers, apparently! Amazing how many different symptoms are present for what seemingly are the same ailments. I have pain that centers just under my solar plexus and radiates to my left side and then wanders all over my back, sometimes around the lower kidney area, and other times just under the shoulder blades. The pain is incredibly terrible at night, during the day very little. Have been to four doctors in the last month, had cat scan, blood work, etc. and no one has any viable idea as to what the problem is. Meanwhile, my personality is suffering mightily, and I am losing acquaintances rapidly. I just ain't no fun to be with anymore!Another twenty thousand dollars worth of test's ? Yo!

Dear Michele:
I, too, have experienced the same type of abdominal pain from time to time that radiates from my lower back into the right lower quadrant of my abdomine.  It has actually woke me out of a dead sleep here recently.  I have been to the internal medicine doctor and gyn here recently and still no diagnosis or cause for the pain.  I have missed several days of work besides because it's hard for me to work sometime with the pain.  I work in a very fast paced environment and moving equipment around seems to exacerbate the pain in that area of my abdomine.  It is very FRUSTRATING for me as I would assume your friend as well! I often wonder if these medical professional sometimes think that it is all in my head.  YET, IT IS VERY REAL!  Now I see by reading your inquiry, that there are obviously others out there just like me.  While this feels comforting to me, in some strange way, that this would suggest that the PAIN IS NOT in my head; the question is, what is it?  And, what abdominal pain can cause such pain that no medical professional, so far, has been able to diagnois or develope a plan of care to treat the pain!  It is INDEED FRUSTRATING and I sympathize with your friend.
Very truly yours,
M.Licciardi

The pain can be related to a kidney stone, I have had one recently and as the stone moves down it causes pain in different places. It can be severe pain and can be helped. I would get it checked out.

I have been diagnosed with gastritis and colitis.  I have had a colonoscopy and a cat scan of my abdomen.  The cat scan showed that my pancreas was slightly inflamed.  What could this mean?

I am taking Prolosec. I've been in and out of the Drs. with infections because of Asthma. But, this last time hospitilized for a few days I've had severe cramping and stomache and back pains. The Dr. has taken lots of blood and urine tests. Do I have bleeding ulcers or possibly cancer stomache?
