Can Someone Help Me, Duodenal Ulcer?

Hello,

Any help regarding my condition would be wonderful.    I currently suffer from what what diagnosed by an endoscopy as inflamated stomach, duodenum possibly leading into a duodenal ulcer...Hopefully not though...Anyhow I have been on a pretty strict diet but cannot seem to lick this thing...I take two zantac 75 a day...One in the morning and one at night...Seems to help...Had terrible side effects with the more popular Proton Pump Inhibitor drugs like Prevacid/Nexium etc...Plus, it seems that if I take too much of this Antacid stuff I get a lot of bloating and gas...I believe this is causing me indigestion or malabsorbtion...It feels that way anyhow...Its a catch 22 though, because the low acid helps me recover from the irritation in my duodenum and stomach but too low acid gave me the malabsorbtion issue...So my question is, how can I intensify the creation of the mucous membranes in these areas of my stomach so it can protect itself from the acids so I don

Hello,
I was recently diagnosed with duadual ulcers with spasms.  Let me tell you, sometimes it feels like my insides are about to burst.  The pain is sometimes intollerable.  My docter told me this was my problem, and left it at that.  I am on prevecid (sp) and have been sence before this test.  He didn't give me a cause.  But, for the last three years I was taking care of my termanally ill mother, doing everything that she used to do, and working full time, being a full time mother, and trying to recover from a historectomy, followed by four other hernia and seroma surgeries.  Now, you tell me why I have ulcers.
I have stopped taking ibeprophen and am taking tylenol (doesn't take care of all the pains).  I can't eat much, because the pain is unreal when I do.  Unlike you, I am overweight and have lost 20 lbs. in the last month.  I do understand the bloating and the pain you suffer.

I read on the net that decafinated green tea has one of the highest levels of the stuff you need to kill the bad bacteria and help the good grow back.  That is what I am trying.  I am a coffee drinker, and I have been drinking this instead.  It is really good and you can have it cold or hot.  I'm not sure if it is working, but, I do have to go to the bathroom alot.  Maybe this is something you might try also.  Also, read that taking allow vera juice helps heal.

Best to you.  Like the above statement, don't let yours get this far.  It is misserable.

well, i also suffer from stomach inflammation and have a couple stomach ulcers as well.  as it seems that you've had a real hard time with the various PPI drugs, i would really encourage you to try some DGL tablets(licorice root).  from what I've found, they have no side effects, and really bring some fast, effective relief(for me anyway).  also, you said you were on a diet-what it is?

Dear DJTech,

I'm going to post some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS for you, because these help with ULCERS TOO!! :-)

Let us know if this helps you! Read below, for the "tips":

Some GASTRIC REFLUX TIPS (without acid blockers):

GER=Gastro-Esophageal Reflux. (Gastro=stomach. Esophagus=food tube.)

LPR= Laryngeal-Pharyngeal Reflux. (Larynx=voice box, containing the 2 vocal cords. Pharynx=throat, above the larynx. The larynx is above the trachea/windpipe.)

Reflux=acidic or alkaline stomach material that backs up into the esophagus (food tube), causing any of these problems: VCD/Vocal Cord Dysfunction/Laryngospasm attacks, cough, voice problems, asthma, globus (feeling of lump in throat), constant need to clear throat, worsening of sinus condition, sore throat, pre-cancerous conditions of throat &/or esophagus, etc.

SOME GER/LPR CONTROL THINGS WE DO, that we learned from the excellent book: STOMACH AILMENTS AND DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES, by Michael T. Murray, N.D. See page 9, References, in my website: http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.com   and, also see GER/LPR info on page 5, and on LINKS page.

PLEASE READ THIS GREAT BOOK. It may possibly be bought on-line, from Michael T. Murray

I have a type of knawing/pain feeling right under the breastbone...And of course the bloating is just a typical bloating feeling...The problem is, is that I am extremely underweight and need to gain weight but cannot with this darn problem...Anyone tried Carafate to protect the lining of the stomach or duodenum?  I have heard this helps...this might be good for me because maybe it would allow me to back off a bit on the antacid so I could eat and absorb better...Any thoughts on this?

I've tried Lansoprazole and now Zantac for mild gastritis/stomach irritation (endoscopy showed this).

The lansoprazole PPI (300mg) give me really bad abdominal cramps, bloating and indigestion.
It took a week before I could tolerate it! It did get better...
Managed a full 3 weeks on it. Really helped the sore stomach.
Although, as you have found, I suffered from indigestion every day (particularly bloating).

Am now on Zantac, 300mg a day. 2 x 75mg sounds like a very low dose. I was put on 300mg for stomach irritation.
75mg I beleive only offers relief for upto 6 hours?
I would certainly question this with your doctor.

I do find 300mg causes constant indigestion but remember this is allowing the real problem to fix. Indigestion is unpleasant but maybe something we have to deal with to get better :-(
My mum had a duodenal ulcer, beleive me don't let it get that bad! She was in agony with some food types!

I've had trouble for 6 months now and still not fixed, but I am better. I'm putting up with the high Zantac dose for now.

I have been off Zantac several times, but I have severe acid rebound the first week off it, then a great week, then back to pain!

So I'm sticking it out for now.

My doctor is going to try me on Nexium this week.
I expect I'll suffer again as PPIs are very effective at
acid reduction!

I suffer from pain located directly below the breastbone.
Either a "sore" pain or bloated feeling.
