Dog house training hits a new high

Not sure this is a question, maybe more a way to jump back in as I've been mostly absent for a couple of years.  I have posted in the past concerning my now gone Westie named Wilson and my current PomChi (my guess) Jasper.  Both were/are rescue.  I also managed to offer a few helpful responses to posts by others.

In the case of Jasper he had been a long time resident in a no-kill shelter, where I have done volunteer work, and at an age of about 6 years he was a real challenge on my patience to house train.  He has just passed two years with me and has been mostly reliable, maybe poop in the house every two or three months.  This cold morning in NJ we were sitting on the couch and he jumped up and went to the door, then turned around and headed for the kitchen.  I jumped up got his attention and headed for the front door. He came right along and I stepped onto the front porch absent a coat to observe him run directly across the driveway to a location he has used frequently and immediately got to his "business".  I take this action to be a new "Bench Mark" on the house training exercise.  He got a lot of praise and a treat when he came in... immediately when he was done.

Hope all are well, I am happy to see I recognize many or even most of the handles of those providing active support and provide, I'm confident, continuing great advice.

Hi Jerry, and it's nice to see you back here, with the "doggy news"! Bless Jasper....he seems to be doing well.
Winston is well remembered by me.

Hi Jerry!!  So good to hear from you.  I am not in the Forums that often, as many of us were not happy with the changes, but stop by now and then.  Wow, has it been two years already since you got Jasper?  Glad to hear he is still with you and glad you are doing volunteer work.  The animals sure need it!
Housebreaking some of these boys can be a real challenge, esp an older one but glad to hear he may be "getting" it some of the time.  Long story but I was duped again (by my daughter) to take a young Havanese mix male.  Truthfully, was not needing another dog and did not especially want a small breed male as they can be very hard to house train!  Poor thing was abandoned and was matted to the skin, full of ticks and fleas. Who does that??!!  Anyway, we have him now and got him neutered right away.  True to form, he will mark, given the chance.  Have a security gate up in the family room now so he does not have the run of the house.  I ordered belly bands for him and he only gets beyond the gate if he has one on.  He does sleep in our bed at night now and will stay there until we get up.  These "boys"!!  Lol
So good to hear from you.
