Ear mites

I have a 3 year old yorkie who sleep in bed with me.  I have been putting mineral oil in her ears for about a month but now I'm starting to itch too, today I found a very small amount of blood in one of my ears and am wondering if I can get ear mites from my little girl?????

Hi Rusty....Thank you so much for coming back with an update........I'm always left wondering how Canines, I've tried to help, are doing....
I'm glad you got to the bottom of Hers (And your) ear problems......Hope your both better by now....

FYI: Ear problems in dogs usually are linked to Grains (Too Many) in their food... If your feeding a grain heavy diet with Corn, Wheat, Soy (Which they have NO need for)....Find a food that has none or minimal....Her ears will thank you for it!!!    :)     Karla

Again, Thanks for the response!

Thank you for your advice.  I did take her to the vet that day, and she has a yeast infection and she is being treated properly.  He said the same thing as you, I also went to my Dr, and I had a small tear in the membrain that I got by cleaning with a q-tip.  No more putting q-tips in any ears.  So we are both on the mend and the panick is over.
Again, thank you
Rusty

Hi Rusty & Welcome........Why are you using the mineral oil?  Has your Yorkie been diagnosed with Mites?  Ear mites itch intensely (Usually both ears) & are a black/brownish discharge that looks like coffee grounds.......Yes, I've read that they can be smothered with oils, but I believe a month is TOO long to continue to put oil in her ears.....It's possible that other damage is being done....Treatment for any kind of ear problem is usually a couple of weeks......Her ears need to air out!  You should have her ears re-evaluated (By a Vet) to make sure that's what your dealing with.......

To answer your question:  NO, you CANNOT get ear mites from your Yorkie.......Karla
