how does a person get chlaymadia of the mouth? is it also called thrush?
thank you Ghilly, id been doing lots of research myself cause my guys are like my kids and id hate for anything harmful to come to them. but yes, ive secured my trash after id found beni rooting through it.
thank you again, i feel a bit more at ease that you found nothing but the bird strain as i did.
Dogs can be infected by a form of chlamydia called chlamydia psittaci, which is found in bird droppings. This form comes from psittacine birds, or more recognizably, birds in the parrot family (hookbills). Parakeets, parrots, conures, etc. It usually manifests as conjunctivitis. Cats, too, can develop this.
It's doubtful that your dog will have any problems from rooting through your trash, but it's still a good idea to secure the trash somehow so that he can't get into it, either with a lid or by putting it into a vanity cabinet and putting a child-proof lock thingy on the door.
I cannot, in any of the research I have done, fine any instances of human chlamydia being transmitted to a dog. I don't believe that it is considered to be zoonotic.
