I didn't answer you before because seeana did it for more, and very well too. I'm back because it is going to take a lot more than a week to see improvement. This type of injury needs considerable time to heal. It may even be a year. It is hard to say. You will have to weigh that against the other things that were mentioned here. The surgery will be a quicker fix, but again, there can be long term complications and new issues that will come up. I had to say something because you won't see much difference in a week with this type of injury. It will heal on its own. The hardest part will be in trying to keep the puppy from overdoing it.
Hi ,,just google Tellington touch.
THANKS FOR THE ADVICE.I BELIEVE THAT I AM GOING TO WAIT FOR ABOUT A WEEK TO SEE IF THE CONDITION IMPROVES.MY PUP IS 7 MONTHS OLD SO HOPEFULLY IT WILL HEAL ON ITS OWN
THANKS WHERE COULD I GET MORE INFO. ABOUT TELLINGTON TOUCH
I've seen an X-Ray of a torn cruciate ligament. On the picture it is quite obvious.
But I would suggest getting a referral from your vet to an orthopedic specialist, who will be able to give you a wider picture on all the treatment options.
Want to add something: My guy was finally diagnosed from an physical exam.....We only did xrays to see if Arthritis had set in yet, as the injury was old.......Karla
Hello & welcome.......I have a 6 yr. old (19 lb.) Bichon who tore his ACL 2 yrs. ago. It took 1 yr. to have it diagnosed correctly!
My Regular Vet immediately said surgery......I took him to my Holistic Vet that said Absolutely NOT to the surgery...We did laser treatments for a few months to speed the healing....It's Laser therapy such as Professional athletes use for injuries...
Acupuncture is also an option....If it works, then Gold bead implants are possible...(This is a form of permanent Acupuncture).
So far, my guy is doing fine...Sometimes, he does something crazy & limps a time or two, but not often....My Vet said the Arthritis after the surgery is far worse than the injury...Joint supplements were started immediately, also.....Good luck and let us know... Karla
I like seeana's answer. I went through the same thing except I did the surgery. My neighbor had two different dogs with the problem and she left them alone. Knowing what I know now, here is what I would do. If it is a relatively young dog, I would let them heal on their own. Ask your vet, but it is possible that this surgery will have to be repeated after a while. ( I think that is what I heard, so double check.) Another reason to leave a young dog alone. If it is an older dog I might consider the surgery. The older dog will not heal as fast or as well as a younger dog would. They would have a quicker recovery from the surgery than from leaving it alone and a better quality of life at the end of their days.
If your puppy is truly a puppy, a young dog, then I vote for leaving it alone unless you want to repeat the surgery one or even two more times. Once the surgery is done, you will have no choice.
Acupuncture might help speed healing as well as homeopathy and perhaps magnets. Learn tellington touch. You can do it yourself and it is not hard. It is kind of like massage.
Hi i can only tell you of my experience take it or leave it.
First of all; you are right about Xrays did you ask for them or see them ?? you have that right.Always ask and it will give you the upper hand.
About 12yrs ago one of my young dogs Rocky a G. Retriever did his Cruciate lig while trying to catch a frisbee. It was bad.... we took him to our Vet Pete and he diagnosed as such....without any xrays.
He gave us a choice he could operate or strictly confine him for 8weeks when he had to go outside has to be on a lead.Same if he had the op anyway. He gave us a 50/50 chance, and it hinged on how much rest he would get.
So we opted for that ! it was hard to keep Rocky quiet and a couple of times he moved too fast for our liking .
Anyway it worked and it healed well and was never a prob again. Some other options are
Massage, and or Acupuncture.in the end its your choice. Here in Australia our Vet hates to operate if there is a chance it can heal .Told us to do the same with a TB foal who's legs were very badly twisted another Vet wanted to pin the legs.We didn't and that horse
won 7 races. That's when we we chose to have Pete as our only Vet.
This is my story but its up to you to make that decision.
Either way please keep us informed.
Good luck.
