High ALT

I have a 2 year old teacup Schnauzer & recently changed her diet to a raw diet. We used Stella & Chewy's raw food. The first week she did great, the second week she began vomiting, sometimes food, other times white foamy stuff. She laid around for about 2 or 3 days, but still had an appetite, loved her new food & drank the normal amount. Then 4 days later she was waking us up every 1 1/2 hrs in the middle of the night to have a BM, stool was normal most of the time, occasionally it would be soft. On the second morning of nighttime potty runs, it was diarrhea & I called a new holistic vet. They tested her pancreatic, kidney & liver, gave her Metronidazole for the diarrhea. Her ALT was 385 & gave her Denamarin to support the liver. In viewing her last ALT levels from her old vet they were 128. The vet put her on The Honest Kitchen diet where I cook & add the meat. She doesn't want me to change the protein source for awhile. We will retest her enzymes in 30 days. If they are high, she's going to run other tests to rule out genetic issues. I am wondering if these high liver enzymes has anything to do with the raw diet? The vet said some dogs can't handle a raw diet. Has anyone had something similar on a raw diet?

Welcome.....What did she eat before the raw diet? How long has she been on the raw???
The ALT Levels from your old Vet were already high! Was the old test done before the food change??? If so, then further testing is warranted.....Especially in such a young dog......Let us know....Karla

Don't have an educated answer, but my experience and reading would strongly suggest when a dog has a diet change and develops digestive problems, go back to the diet that didn't produce the problems.

I also read that dogs should have any change in diet be gradual.  In the case of our Westie, he loves change, but I still transition him over a week if I want to introduce a new food type (here I'm talking content, not a complete change from cooked to raw).
