Let the good times roll!

I realize most of us found this community because we have medical or behavioral problems with our dogs.  Don't forget to share the good times we have with our furry and funny companions.  While our dogs get sick and have issues in their lives just as we humans do, we have them with us because they make our lives better.

In a casual social gathering some years ago, a friend asked the group a question about reincarnation.  "Who do you want to come back around as next time?"  My answer:  my dog.  He had the best life any being could ask for, and the only thing he was responsible for was breathing.  Of course, most people just laughed at me, but the people who had dogs completely understood my answer.  Some went so far as to admit they wouldn't mind being reincarnated as a dog under my roof.  LOL!

Whether you add to this thread or start your own, think about some good stories to share with everyone about your relationships with your dogs.  We get so focused on illness and death sometimes that we forget all the years of wonderful times that came first.  So let's hear 'em!  :-)

Travis chasing the swifts and martins that were so high up in the sky you could barely hear them.  That dog was as exquisitely balanced as a dressage horse and could do 1-beat flying lead changes that were a thing of beauty.  He'd point his snout straight up and tear around the yard with instant changes in direction and never once fell in the pool, ran into a tree, crashed into the fence... nothing.  We still call those birds "Travis Birds" after all these years.  :-)

Travis used the same lead change technique to lure other dogs into obstacles.  His old labrador buddy, Boomer, loved to play chase with Travis.  Well, Travis would tear off in the direction of a tree and if you knew what to look for, you could see the lead changes just before impact.  Left, right, left, right... boom!  Travis tore off in one direction at the last second and Boomer crashed into the tree every time while Travis circled around laughing.  LOL!

Whenever we would yell at a cat to stop scratching the furniture, rugs, etc., Mollie would make a mad dash towards them to nip them in the feet to make them stop the scratching, trouble is that a lot of times it was the wrong cat. She would nail one that was just sitting there doing nothing.    We aways thanked her so she felt she was doing good.  I think she thought it was her job.

Toby chasing the moon.(He never did catch it, but boy oh boy! He tried!) I had to put him on the leash when we went into the orchard at night or he'd take off and be gone half a mile away in 10 seconds!  ....0-60 in 4 seconds. That's what we used to say about Toby when the moon was up.

Misty always being able to find her way out of any situation...such as us being totally lost in a big woods, and silly old me not having a clue how to get out of there. So I just followed the dog....and we made it back for dinner on time! (Ha ha for me being pack leader, eh?)

If I think of any more I'll drop in again and add to the list....
