Sorry..."him", not "her"...!
It's not really a good idea to take risks with your dog's eyes, so what I suggest is try bathing it with salt water for a day. If on the following day you see a little improvement, keep doing it until it is healed. If, on the following day you see NO improvement, take him to the vet, as an antibiotic may be needed.
This is how to do the salt water eye-wash: (remember hygiene has to be very strict when you are dealing with eyes)
*Sterilize a clean cup by pouring boiling water into it, letting it stand for a few minutes, then pouring the water out.
*Boil up some water, pour it into the cup and add about half a teaspoon of plain rock salt (don't use table salt with anything added to keep the salt runny)
*Let the mixture cool until it is just vaguely warm.
*Make sure your hands are scrubbed clean and any soap thoroughly rinsed off.
*Bathe the eye using cotton wool balls dipped in the salt water. Make sure the salt water drips from the cotton wool into the eye itself. Do this first, BEFORE bathing the outer part of the eye (to make sure any dirt or germs from outside aren't carried into the eye)
*After one application, discard the cotton wool ball, and use a new one.
*Don't dip it back into the salt water after it's touched the eye. (so as not to spread germs back into the eye from the water)
*Do this 3 or 4 times in 24 hour period.
If it is something quite simple such as a burst stye, or a minor inflammation this will probably work. This has worked well on my dog's eyes once when she had some irritation caused by running through grass.
But as I said, I would see if there is any improvement after 24 hours... NO improvement, get the vet to look at her. Her eyes are too valuable to take risks with.
