MY DOG SEEMSTO BE FALLING APART

Hi, My 16 yr old Border Collie developed a coin sized bald spot with a red spot in that on the back of his hind leg about a year ago. I kept doctoring with neosporin ointment, and it continued to remain open until it finally went away. Then shortly afterwards he started to walk funny, and I got on the computer and all symptoms pointed to hip dysplasia. He has good days and bad days, and does good considering his age. Had him since he was a pup. Anyway, was wondering why that place took so long to heal ? Also. with the odd walking shortly happening after that strange sore, could they be related, or is it common hip dysplasia? I give him vitamins.

I have one more question. I noticed about a month ago, and it is still going on that my dog seems to be having trouble barking. What could be causing this? Please help!!! Thank You!!!

I agree that you should definitely see a vet. The sore could or could not be related to his change in gait. The sore could have been a tick bite which transmitted lyme disease or some other tick-borne disease which can cause lameness. He should have blood work done. Unfortunately with older patients, cancer must always be a consideration. It may not be, but it is worth getting him checked out.

Hello.  Your dog is elderly: 112 years old!!  Most dogs do not live that long, so you must be doing something right. :-)  I think a visit to the vet is warranted here.  I hesitate to give you any suggestion for a pooch as old as yours.  Their systems are very sensitive, and not being a vet myself, I would hate to suggest the wrong thing here. - Blu
