My dog threw up food with half a 1/4 teaspoon of blood

Hi, my dog doesn't throw up blood ever, but he did when I gave him a few cut up pieces of steak, the two days before that, I gave him some cooked shimp and canned dogfood mixed with dry, I think he may have eaten too much but was wondering if that is pretty serious? It hasn't happend again and he seems to be okay.  The first few pieces of food he expelled had a small marble size amount of blood probably consisting of a few drops then the second time he threw up 5 seconds later which had streaks, the third time he threw up a few more seconds later had just red coloration in the liquid but nothing rich in color.   He's a weiner mixed with pug, and burbs often.  I have seen him throw up yellow colored liquid a few times.

I'm very happy to hear that it turned out to be nothing serious.  Thanks so much for the update!

Glad to read you consulted with the Vet.  Right, you just never know.

He is okay, I took him to the vet, he did throw up a medium size mango seed 6 days ago but I didn't see blood, I think it irritated him, they gave him an x-ray and medication for his gastritus. Big relief for me... If it happend again, i'd still give him an x-ray.  Never know what could be in there.

A small amount of blood in a dog's vomit can be nothing all that serious or it can be very serious, depending upon the cause.  In a dog with a sensitive stomach, just the act of vomiting itself can cause enough irritation of the digestive tract to make blood appear in the vomit.  It could also mean the dog has an infestation of intestinal parasites, which can be diagnosed with a stool sample and treated with a worming followed by a second worming in two to three weeks.  It can also, however, mean something very serious like cancer, so it is imperative that you let the vet examine her to determine what the actual cause is. Please post back and let us know how you make out at the vet.  I hope it turns out to be something minor!

I'm a bit of a worrier but if I ever saw blood in my pup's urine or stools (not related to colitis) then I took her to the vet.  Throwing up blood likely indicates a bigger problem.  Get him to the vet.
