My old dog

My 12 year old deaf weimaraner is not sleeping through the night. When she was one she had a car accident, so she has some arthritis but is on meds to control any pain. She gets lots of exercise and still loves running around.  But at night, on her bed, with a blanket on her, she is restless and gets up every hour. She also seems disoriented and gets stuck down at the bottom of the stairs and cries as she can't figure out how to walk up the stairs.
She has lost a lot of weight recently and I cannot get it back on to her. She has started to pee on the floor some nights, she has never done this before.
We are at our wits end.

Nancy the dog may have swelling behind the knees my dog no longer walks up the stairs or hops in the bed I bought a dog bed.  He is on Rimadell for the pain dogs always dont show pain.  Get her to the vet they can give her something to make her feel better but the stairs maybe over at this point.

Yes, I agree with the others, that your dog definitely needs to be seen by a Vet. Your 12 year old Weimarinar is a Senior Dog, and really needs to have some Bloodwork done. Please have the vet do bloodwork on your dog, to determine her kidney and liver functions. All Senior Dogs should have bloodwork done annually.
I hope your vet can figure out quickly, what is wrong with your dog.
Please let us know how things are going.

This definitely sounds like dementia.  I had an elderly bulldog that did the same thing for the final 2 years of his life.  Elderly humans with dementia 'sundown' in the late afternoon/early evening by restlessly wandering; canines do it at night.  If she pees in the same place, a puppy pad may solve that problem.  My bully would pee by the back door so I just replaced the door mat with a puppy pad.  The getting lost/staring at corners is also a part of it.  Just gently lead her back to where she's trying to get.  Definitely talk  to your vet.  There are some meds that may be able to at least help with the worst of the symptoms.
Good luck - getting old is not for sissies of any species :-)

Aaawww... you should take her to see a vet.  There are other options for her from there.  She is getting old, and maybe senile/forgetful.  The vet may be able to help you with drug therapy to take the edge off old age for your dog, and for you as a dog-mom. :)
