Quick sicness to death

My 7 month old Tea Cup Chihuahua started showing signs of being sick two days ago, by being listless.  Last night he began to cough, had trouble breathing and diarehea.  I immediately took him to the emergency vet hospital where his prognosis was extremely poor.  His temperature was 93 his heart rate was 40 and was beginning to have convulsions.  At first the Dr. thought it was viral, but all tests proved negative.  They gave him different medicines and intravenous, unfortunately, we had to put him to sleep three hours later, because he was suffering.  The Dr.s do not know what happened and we would like to know.  He was kept in a clean environment, never outside and everything was constantly sanitized.  Does anyone know if this has happened before.  We are hurting and wish to know what happened to our bundle of joy.

I am SO sorry to hear about your loss!  My deepest sympathies to you!

It is entirely possible that your puppy had a congenital problem, meaning he was born with it and it just got to the point where it affected him.  This is one of the problems with "teacup" puppies of any breed.  There is no such thing as a "teacup" anything, the word has been adopted by breeders to describe undersized puppies that are much smaller than the breed standard calls for.  Unfortunately, sometimes the condition that causes the puppy to be undersized can be something that turns out to be fatal for him. The only way you will be able to determine what killed your puppy would be to have a necropsy (post mortem) done.  I am so sorry that you and your family have to go through this pain.  I hope you are able to find some peace within this situation and get some answers.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Chihuahua passing on.  Like Missy said, he was a family member.

It has happened before, to one of our dogs at least.  Sometimes the owners want an autopsy to determine what happened to their dog.  Just a guess - could he have had  "bloat".  X-rays would determine that.  It sound so innocuous but it isn't.  Dogs come in all the time with it and often the owners don't have any idea what it is or how severe it can be.  That's what happened with one of our dogs.

I'm sure you made your "bundle of joy's" feel loved, wanted and well cared for.

Don't hesitate to post or respond if you feel that it would help you.  Most dog owners have gone through similar losses.

Oh my gosh, my heart sure goes out to you and your family.  It is so hard to lose a member of your family and not knowing what happened has to be devastating.  I don't have any answers for you, but I wanted you to know that someone is thinking of you.
