Rotty vomiting mucus

We have a male rottweiler who in the last month or so has started vomiting mucus, sometimes with a small amount of food in, no blood or anything untoward.  He hasnt eaten anything he shouldnt and apart from the vomiting he is fine in himself.  He does a slight hacking noise like he is clearing his throat and he seems to throw up after he has been laying down.  We took him to the vet on thursday, he checked him over and said that he couldnt feel or see anything suspicious, gave him anti biotics and a jab and sent him on his ay, only now he is vomiting loads more than before!  He had grass in his sick yesterday which is a first.  His eyes are watering quite a bit too.  Could you help?  as I said he is absolutely fine in himself!

Hi, thanks for your reply.  We stopped the anti b's on monday, and he has only been sick 4 times in 2 days. He must have had a reaction.

He is a rescue so we arent sure of his age, i'd hazard a guess around 6-8.  He has been getting fed tinned food, we are going to change this to a dry food.  I told the vet that I thought it was acid reflux, and when I rung again monday I did say that this is what I thought it was and the anti b's had made him worse, all they want to do is get more money out of you! They are talking about x rays etc now, ive had dogs all my life and even I know he doesnt need that!  I agree with blood work, but the fact that he has had no personality change at all, happy to run around, etc etc...  I think we will watch him over the next few days and see how he goes.  Thanks for your reply

Good to hear you did have him in to see the Vet.  Dogs usually eat grass when their stomachs are upset.  Have you changed his food at all?  I would try getting a grain free food, maybe try a fish and potato formula, stay away from meat and grains.  Is he vomiting in the mornings?  Not sure what your feeding schedule is but you might try feeding 3 or 4 smaller meals a day and maybe a little before he goes to bed at night.  There are OTC stuff I might use but hesitate to recommend that here esp since this is not my dog.  You might ask your Vet what you can use for an upset stomach.  Some type of anti acid may help, suggested by the Vet.  You didn't give the age but he may need some blood work done, at least a blood panel and possibly a scope.
I would try the change of food and smaller meals and monitor him.  You know your dog best and will know if he is not improving.
