Swollen glands

Hi, 2 weeks ago my dog was due for her annual Lyme and heart worm test. I opted to bring her in a bit early since she has been coughing a bit in the middle of the night and had recently started shaking all over for periods of time. She is a 10 Y.O. lab/pointer mix who I adopted with significant illness at her age 7 when her "owners" abandoned her. She has some past bleeding issues (prednisone treatments) and often needs to fight off an infection b/c of her reduced immune system but we have had quite a healthy year over all and she can normally run a comfortable mile and half daily with me through trails and hills.
My vet opted for antibiotics, oxycodone for cough and zubrin for shaking. She responded OK but within days presented with a SMALL rash in her genital area. Vet said treating with ointment would suffice. By the following day her vulvar area was 4 times its normal size, raw, bleeding and crippling w/ pain. He advised a cortisone injection, medicated wash and more ointment and Zubrin. She worsened w/ labored breathing, moaning, and had to be carried in and outdoors or to the vehicle. She no longer even lifted her head to acknowledge me.
We spent an expensive night in the ER to find she had a high fever and was dehydrated too...The subsequent treatment was a broad scale antibiotic, a hydration injection and keeping the area dry instead. No further washings or ointments. IN 2 days her behavior has turned around significantly and her genital area is already back to near normal, but the following day she developed a swelling at the angle of her jaw. The swelling broadened across her throat in the course of a day and touches now to the other side slightly. Now her gums are bleeding, tongue is a little fat and her spittle is a bit pasty as well. She shows no signs of discomfort from it and has been choosing hard bisquits to eat when soft foods are available.
She is only taking Enroflaxacin via a syringe (she has not been eating much and she is no dummy...spots pills a mile away)...could that be the cause of this new issue or should I anticipate yet another serious problem on the heels of finally curing the first one? Her demeanor and interest in me is near back to normal, she is just starting to increase her eating slowly and is drinking water/pedialite regularly.

Thanks Jay, what a great idea. I will try right now! I would not have thought of that myself.

UGH!  I HATE when that happens!  The question limitations on that forum seem to have recently appeared, as it was never a problem until a couple weeks ago.  Maybe you could "piggy back" a note to Dr. Cheng to look over at this forum for details by responding to an existing question?  Worth a try anyway until you can create a new post on that forum.

Thanks...I have tried but the daily question limit is reached by the even earliest of morning hours. I have been unable to ask her anything for 2 days now.

With such a complicated case, I hope you copy and paste your post to Dr. Cheng on the Ask a Vet forum here at MedHelp.  Wish I could offer some advice, but I have none.  :-(
