I have been told they have had Necropsy done on her. They found nothing. I have to agree it was some kind of other problem... Like a liver or stomach. Something had to have happened. The poor thing. And it happened so fast. But my cousin fines comfort that they didn't have to put her down. She said she couldn't have made that decision.
I hate this when people say this. But I honestly think they needed a good dog in heaven.
Her Dad died a few years ago and loved this dog. I have a picture in my head of them sitting on a park bench and the dog is next to him. And she said she will have the same picture of those two together. But I just honestly think it was the dogs time to go. For the vets having no time to do anything for her. They were able to relieve the apparent pain she was in and that was all. Thank you for everyone's responding.
So sorry to read this sad story. Unfortunately, sometimes there are just no answers. Although we can give our pets the best care, things (like in people) happen for no apparent reason and with no apparent warning. Unless a necropsy was done, they may never have an answer. My first thought was poison or brain tumor or lesion, which the dog could have had and exhibited no symptoms. Possibly it was an aneurysm that burst and there are often no symptoms that a person may notice It could have been caused by something systemic due to kidney, liver or other organ problems. I've lost a couple of dogs over the years (and not considered old) suddenly and they gave me *no* indications that anything was amiss so it was really a shock. I did have a necropsy done on one to find out she had a liver tumor and she had been active that morning, ate her breakfast and seemed fine.
It's so sad an unfortunate these things happen. We can only do the best we can do for our pets and, that being said, can't lay blame anywhere.
Hope your cousin finds some comfort.
Janelle....Autopsies are what they are called for Humans...A "Necropsy" is for animals.....Is that what they did? And NO Tumor found?
Was Poison ruled out? That would be my next guess.....
By chance, Had she just been Vaccinated (Recently, like 1-3 months)? Since obvious things would have shown on the Necropsy, could this have been a Serious Vaccine Reaction? (Although the Vet would never agree).....I wonder???......Karla
They were told it wasn't a brain turmor. And they couldn't figure out what caused her to have the seizures. Sorry about that.
They were told it was a brain tumor. But I can't help believe that this is what took her. She apparently tried to leave the dinning room where we think it happened. To get to the bedroom. She couldn't see and they could tell she was really lost in her own house.
I was told they don't doo autopsy on animals. They did other test and they couldn't come up with anything.
For her to have seizures so bad she shook off the bed. When they found her she was lying still next to the bed. They thought she had died then. But she came out of it and then tried to walk to the bedroom door. She could hardly stand poor thing.
She was the best pit bull dog I had ever been around. Her owner told me that pits are misunderstood dogs. They are as gentle or mean as you raise them.
Just like Russell are misunderstood breeds. Mine Russell is also Beagle mix. She's the best thing.
I just was so in shock over Kai's sudden death. They keep her shots up to date and did everything they could for this dog. Thanks for your reply.
Hi Janelle & welcome .....First of all, I'm terribly sorry about your cousin's dog.....I hate sadness!!!!
From what you describe & the sudden death, I'd go with a Brain Tumor.....Without a autopsy, there is no way of telling....But, the symptoms would correspond......
Please let your cousins know that they did everything right.....Sometimes, life throws us things we cannot control!!!
I hope with time, they will be able to open their hearts & home to another lucky canine friend....Karla
