Learn something new every day!!  I didn't know that only the blue Dawn was the proper ph.
Thanks! (Although I hope the fleas have finally been vanquished - its been 3 weeks since I've seen one, and no more scratching so far!)

Hello & welcome.......Itching on neck & back end are Classic signs of FLEAS!  If you are not using flea control product, it's a must....DO NOT go purchase flea meds. at a discount center or grocery store.....They do not work (Dangerous, too) and you are wasting your money! Spend the money and only purchase a product from your Vet. They  DO work!

Most people will respond with, "He doesn't have fleas or I haven't seen any fleas". Doesn't matter, they HAVE been there and one bite will trigger the reaction!

These open sores can get infected easily and he probably needs antibiotics (Oral) from your Vet by now.....Dial soap will not do anything but dry his skin out and make him itch more.....Until you can get this under control; go by some Dawn Dish Liquid. Make sure you get only the "Blue" one. Why? It's the proper PH for a dogs skin and will not strip his natural oils.....The good news is it kills fleas instantly!!!! Bathe him in it, let it sit a few minutes and then rinse really well.

You can try an OTC antibiotic ointment on his sores and see if it helps. Or a cortizone cream for itching...

You will have to get a handle on his enviroment, also.....Vacumn the house many times & treat the yard....Wash his bedding frequently. Do not use fabric softener!

You will not get an instant response to the itch stopping...It will take time....

If you feed a grain heavy diet (Cheap grocery store brand), then get a better food......Start looking at ingredients in certain pet foods....You wouldn't want to eat it, so he shouldn't either...Healthy dogs have less flea problems.....

Hope some of this will help you, help him....Keep us updated....Karla
