dog wont eat or drink

My 5 year old, very bouncy lab/collie cross has not eaten or drunk since coming back from a walk on the beach on Saturday afternoon.  Expecting him to be back bouncing on Sunday norning, and to encourage him to drink (he likes to either drink out of a river or from a flushed toilet) we took him to the river and he seemed more himself.  Having drunk we then went a little further, he sat down and then vomitted all the water he had just drunk.  He was taken into the vets and put on a drip for dehydration on Sunday afternoon and was released with easy-to-digest tinned food Monday morning. .  All Monday I couldn't get him to eat or drink again (its as if the snell/thought of it makes him ill)and will have to take him back into the vets tomorrow (Tues) morning.  He is completely listless, although waggs nis tail when he sees any of the family and chooses to lie by one of us. I feel he's just going to slip away and don't know why.  He isn't in pain at all.

Wow!!  What a crazy event, huh?  I'm just glad you jumped on it when the symptoms first appeared.  Pat yourself on the back for taking great care of your dog.  That's just wonderful news!  :-)

I took him back to the vets this morning, where he was given a further inspection by one of the senior vets, who found a lump in his lower stomach.  He thought it might be a stone and had an X-ray taken.  It did not show anything, but he was sure something was there.  He called to explain and say surgery was needed. They operated without delay and found a seaweed ball was blocking his small intestine and the likely cause of his problems. (We live by the sea and frequently walk the beach).  The vet called after the op to say what they found and that it had been a long op (over 1 and 1/2 hours).  He is now recovering in the vets kennels and should hopefully be home tomorrow evening – eating and drinking!  Thanks for your response.

Do you know what diagnostic tests your vet has run yet?  It's possible he has pancreatitis and that can be diagnosed with a blood test.  Let us know what happens at the vet today, and I hope he'll be well soon.  :-)
