gall bladder operation.

My dog aged 12 has had a gall bladder operation on Tuesday 11 March, and the wound has been left open.

It is bleeding a lot 4 days after surgery, and he has a nappy to try and protect the house from blood leakages.

How long will the wound take to heal and how long will be bleeding last.

He passes urine through his penis and his wound.  Will this prolong the healing process and can it lead to infection?

Hope you can give some advise.

Thanks

Eric Smalley

My 7-year-old dog has gall bladder and liver disease. She does not get any improvement on her liver enzyme with medication on Ursosan, antibiotics and liver support. She lost her appetite and started to vomit after eating last week. She even vomit water this week. My vet said that the operation on removing her gall bladder is very risky.Should she take surgery?

Gallbladder surgery in dogs is a very serious undertaking.  Since your dog is a senior, healing is going to be even slower.  The one thing I'm concerned about is your statement that he is passing urine through his wound.  There is no way that should be considered normal at all.  Please call your veterinarian, and if you don't get a solid answer, take your dog to a different vet for evaluation.
