Making a decision...

My 13yro Pitt lab mix, Sidney,  was diagnosed with kidney failure 2months ago.  We started meds and a new diet and things were going fine, but not perfect.  Sidney tore apart a treat ball and swallowed a part, which I discovered because she threw it up, a week ago.  This started a downward spiral that she just doesn't seem to be coming back from, despite sub cu fluids and anti nausea meds.  Her numbers keep rising despite all our efforts.  Getting her to eat is a huge struggle and her joy of eating is all but gone.  We went to visit our vet today... His opinion she doesn't have much more than a month.  I want to let her go peacefully and before she looses control of her functions and is in a deep depression.  We left the vet and went to the park today, she went for a swim and wouldn't come back in, I was afraid I was gonna have to go get her.  She even went for a short walk on the trail.  It's these good days that make it so hard to let her go.  I want her to leave this world with some dignity and want my family to be able to smile again and not worry what she is doing..or not doing.  13 years of good times, much need exercise, fun trips and so many funny stories....  How do I do what I need to do?

If you want my advice, don't keep putting it off. I did and my most recent memories of my Petie are of the bad days. It's SO hard, but try to do what's best for him, not for you.

I'm so sorry.

Like this: simply do not allow her to suffer.  When she starts having more sickness than happiness, that's the time.  You will look at her, and it will hit you like a ton of bricks that it's time to go now.  Blessings to you and your furbaby - Blu
