my mini schnauzer is very skinny..

I just recently bought a mini schnauzer. He is 3 and a half months old. when I bought him they told me to only feed him 2 times a day and only 30 pieces each time. The pieces are very small, puppy food. The problem is, he is very skinny. I can feel his ribs all the around. I living in China and bought him here and know that Chinese are still new to being dog owners. So I went online and did some research myself. I saw a lot of things saying to feed a mini schnauzer of his age 3 times a day and anywhere from a 1/4 of a cup to 3/4 of a cup. I don't want to do anything that will hurt the little guy so I haven't increased him yet. But I am very concerned about how skinny he is. What should I do? Ps. He is pooing very good and firm but only every other day.thanks for you're help!

Yes, he should be fed about a 1/2 to 3/4 cup of puppy food 3x a day.  And he should be having at least three bowel movements a day.  If he is eating, and otherwise acting like a puppy, he should begin to gain weight soon, and have more bowel movements even sooner.  Make sure he always has access to water, and that he drinks.  You can test his hydration by pulling up on the skin at the back of his neck and letting it go: returning to normal quickly is good, slowly is not, and means he needs more water.  You can give him water using a turkey baster, giving him time to swallow and not 'drowning' him.  If he does not respond positively to this care, take him to the vet.  Blessings - Blu
