my chi was abused and i do not know what to for her

i have a one yr old chi that i just got, she was abused and now she is scared of every thing, she will not let me put her on a leash and she hides under the covers all day long. She will not play at all, and i cant get her to eat or drink anything somedays, she has not ate today at all and she was dropped by my sisters granddaughter and she yelps out in pain with her front left leg, i have taken her to the vet and he found nothing wrong with her, her teeth are rotten from being fed table foods and she is constipated bad, the vet gave me meds for that and it seems to work but i have to give it to her every other day because she cant use the bathroom, any help would be great, and appreciated

Sounds encouraging.  I am surprised the Vet didn't suggest a good dental cleaning.  You might ask about that as toothpaste will not get the tartar build up off.
Keep us posted. :-)

Jerry has given you some good advice.  You cannot push this dog and children would be an added stress, not to mention being dropped.  Kids need to be taught not to pick the dog up and to sit on the floor to interact with it but I would not have the dogs around kids for some time.

Best you can do is let the dog get used to your environment and not give it the run of the whole place.  Maybe let it be in the living area and put a gate up to keep it there.  I would not force myself on the dog.  Try sitting on the floor and entice it with some treats, work on trying to get it to eat from your hand.  Best not to make any movements over the top of the dog, rather keep your hand below head level.  Give it it's own space as where it's bed is and the area it's food and water are kept.  Get on a schedule as to when you take it out to potty, etc.  dogs feel more comfortable with routine.  I would not expect her to be too playful as she is probably scared.

Just too long to type here but you will need to be patient.  You might try looking up information on the Internet.

As for the teeth, did the Vet recommend a dental cleaning or extractions?

So glad she is out of an abusive situation!!  It will take time and patience on your part.

Good luck and please update.

I think it is best to try to keep you dog's contact with people and other animals to a minimum.  If you can be the only contact for a while it may make for faster adjustment to you as a friendly safe environment.

I don't understand about the teeth.  Did the vet recommend removal of any of them?  Bad teeth causes pain and can interfere with eating.

Our rescue Westie has had several chewing (back teeth) removed and that I am sure has made him more comfortable.  He too has had some kind of a rough time and was rescued from the "wild" and as he is also deaf it is hard to wake him up without startling him.  He startles very easily and has a tendency to nip - lash out if he feels threatened, even by me.
