My Border Collie used to suffer terribly from sneezing and snorting resulting in the bleeding nose - the walls sometimes resembled the scene of a mass murder. We thought it was due to allergies - mainly grass - but the vet said that dogs did not have allergies and booked him in to have a camera up his nose - this was after he gave us tablets for everything going. The camera showed an infection and the nose was rinsed through, anti biotics given etc.
Cost the insurance company a lot but fair do's, the problem eased. He still had his sneezing fits but thankfully no bleeding nose. We're convinced it was from the grass though and I wish we'd known about the Benadryl then, would probably have saved him from the op. Our vet said he'd never come across it before but when we picked him up the receptionist said her dog has the same problem ! I guess the vet has to make a living ......
An FYI for any other readers: the doggy dosage of benadryl is 1 mg per pound of body weight. Most people err on the side of too little and then conclude it either didn't help or it wasn't allergies to begin with. End of Public Service Announcement. LOL!
Sneezing dogs, this time of the year, is a sure sign of allergies (especially if they're fine throughout the rest of the year).
What RedHed1973 said... Benadryl. We actually give ours the regular kind (non-drowsy of course). Works like a charm and stops the itchy skin, watery eyes, runny nose, eye boogers & sneezing.
Late April through August is allergy season for our girls, so we stock up on Benadryl big time during those months!
I have 2 Yorkies - they had started to sneeze alot but never to the point of nosebleeds . My vet said it was allergies & told my to give them 5cc's ( 1 TSP ) of CHILDRENS Benadryl . U can get a syringe from the pharmacy to administer the liquid . I have had great results ... they hardly sneeze at all anymore . Good luck ! They even like the taste - I get the bubblegum flavor - it's like a treat for them . I dont have any friends on this site yet since I just joined , since we both have Yorkies , would love to have a friend to talk to about them & their issues ... their names r Harry ( 10 yrs. ) & Molly ( almost 2 yrs . )
