advice!!

I am 17weeks and got a call saying that all my results came back negative. But since my blood levels for down syndrome were i guess somewhat higher and the fact that I'm only 21 she said my baby has a risk for down syndrome..... she asked if I wanted to take further tests but I refused because of the high risk of miscarriage or preterm labor! I have an appointment at the end of the month for my anatomy scan and she said they can look via sonogram if there's abnormalities with any organs.... I am beyond devastated as to no one wants to hear this... anyone have advice for my situation...or anyone dealing/had to deal with this situation? Thanks so much for reading my vent!! :)

Did they run the new T-21 blood test? I personally have not done it this time around, since I already have a child with down syndrome. But, I heard its very accurate. I found out after he was born, much easier this way vs. worrying and grieving the entire pregnancy. It's hard, praying everything shows up healthy!! :-)

Hey, I just read your comment on my post and I responded, but I figured you would check this one more often. I went through almost the same thing. I was given the T21 test & everything came back negative. At my anatomy ultrasound they found echogenic bowel which is a soft marker for down syndrome. In 4 weeks I went back for a check up & they performed another ultrasound which also showed echogenic bowel, but it wasn't as bright. I was so devastated & thought about termination, but I know deep down that I could never do that. Not to my bundle of joy that's been kicking around for a month now. Well I went in today exactly a week later from my second ultrasound & the echogenic bowel has disappeared. We are having a healthy little baby. The sex is a suprise. :) I feel everything will be fine for you also. Keep me updated.

Thanks for responding ladies! Means a lot!
Btw so it took you two months and the soft marker was gone?? I didn't know something like that could just go away? That's awesome I'm so happy for you and your little one!!! Also did they tell u why the results came back negative if there was clearly something wrong...

If the T-21 test is negative then the chances of down syndrome are slim to none. It's a very accurate test I'm comparison to ultrasound. Glad all is well. Cali-mamma, get that test done, and go from there. :-)

Yes the soft marker went away within 2 months. It can go away bc echogenic bowel isn't just a soft marker for down syndrome. It could mean all kinds of things, something as simple as the baby just swallowing a little of blood in his/her amniotic fluid, or something as major as cystic fibrosis. Therefore I took the T21 test to rull out the possible major complications.I hope you understand what im saying. I will keep you in my prayers. :)

The t21 test is not the same test as the amino test? I already said I don't want the amino test because Ididnt want to risk a miscarriage or preterm labor.. what do they actually do for the t21 test? I was also afraid to have the amino done because of the needle through my belly :( Lol...but thanks again for all the info and support!!!

The t-21 test is really newer but its very, very accurate. They just draw your blood, that's it! Simple and easy with no risks or complications and a definite, positive or negative. Hope this helps.

From what I've read from the people that has had the amino done...they say it does not hurt, maybe only a pinch, but there is a chance of miscarriage with the amino.

Bonnielv try not to stress Hun trust me I know its realllllly hard not too first three days I couldn't help but cry anytime of day same with my bf but we are just trying to be here for each other since stress is never good. Everything should be fine and regardless we will love are baby. You should look into the t21 test that is what I plan to do I didn't even think about the amnio test for a second cause of the high risk of miscarriage/preterm labor . Message me if you ever want to talk.. seems like were in the same boat :(
