Longstanding Ear problem

Briefly, symptoms:

Inflammed eardrums.
Sensation of blockage in middle ear (both eustachian canals) - not fully relieved by ear-popping.
Flushed face at worst times
Full left maxillary sinus (on CT scan)
Very distorted Septum (on CT scan)
Frequent blockage of left nasal passage (dried blood from previous injury, that never healed fully. I just keep trying to clear it, resulting in more bleeding).
No pain anywhere - just the blocked feeling and eardrum itchiness.

My consultant has given me sprays, drops, etc. He thinks that the eardrum inflamation is non-infection inflammation from the sinus problem.

Simple question - is this really plausible? How can a full sinus end up inflamming my ear drums? (No infection)

Second question - if I force my left nostril to ventilate (by temporarily plugging right nostril) will this enable the maxillary sinus to clear?

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi - sorry I took so long to reply. Just discovered this thread was continuing.

Tell me, what symptoms did you have, exactly?

You are on the right track- making the nostril breathe.
The following breathing technique(pranayam) will help you very much.
Anulom Vilom - Deep Breath-in through left nostril keeping right nostril closed
then - Breath-out through right nostril keeping left nostril closed
then -Deep Breath-in through right nostril keeping left nostril closed
then - Breath-out through left nostril keeping right nostril closed
and repeat this cycle for upto 20  minutes twice a day(maximum 60 min/day).

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.

QUIT DAIRY,  I've had most of your symptoms.  Dietician suggested I quit dairy and IT WORKED!
If I indulge and have ice-cream or cheese, all symptoms come back.

LOL - thanks for that.

I am going to try to ventilate my sinus by forcing myself to breathe through the constricted nostril / passage. Just plug the other nostril for a couple of hours per day. If anyone knows more about sinuses I would be very interested.

I can't tell you what is going wrong with your sinusses but I can tell you what is going on with the middle ear.

The sinusses are causeing some type of swelling, causeing the Eustachean tube to close. When close, oxygen is not longer supplied to the middle ear cavity, skin cells begin to die, inflamation, infection etc starts to occur.

So thereotically if the sinusses are fixed, the middle ear issues should be resolved, & don't watch my spelling... it is horrid.

Ok - thanks. I'll try to get my spelling right in future!

The second question is whether increased ventilation through the left nostril will enable the sinus to clear naturally. What causes the lining to become inflamed, if it is not infected?

yes ear issues and sinus issues are commonly related.
