lymph node drainage and biopsy

My dauhter has had swollen gland under chin for 3 weeks and she is almost 4.  The first week and a half with high fever and no cause.  She was put on several antibiotics, but the gland abscessed.  She just had surgery yesterday and they drained it.  The doctor said that the lymph tissue was dying.  They performed cultures and biopsy.  The only time she is sick since birth, it has to do with the lymph nodes and nothing else.  She has had epstein barr virus before.  Could this be something serious?  Her CBC came back with high WBC, 24,000.  High neutrophils: 80,000.  Low RBC, hemoglobin.  Low lymphocytes: 12,000.  Test did not show if neurtophils were bands or segs.

It is important to get the results of varius cultures that were sent to best treat the abscess.  In addition, the biopsy of the tissue may also give more information.  Any number of processes can lead to enlarged lymph nodes.  The good thing is that your daughter is under the care of physicians and a thorough evaluation is underway to get a diagnosis.  Best wishes.
