Geographic tongue same spot and pattern?

I have had geographic tongue for a while now and I have noticed a strange pattern with my condition.  Usually, geographic tongue is known to migrate around different parts of the tongue but mine stays on the right, top side of my tongue.  It starts out with two red patches with a white border and over the course of a week or so, the patches get bigger and bigger, and eventually blend together to make one big patch.  Then when it seems like it is starting to get better, the same process starts over again.  Two patches form, get bigger, merge together, and the new ones form.  Is this normal for geographic tongue?
