How to Stop

Hi everyone. I am fairly new to the group and have not had the courage to come forward with this until now. I am a compulsive eater and bulimic. I am trying to lose weight safely now, but the problem is that once I get the urge to eat bad things, I run to the grocery store as fast as I can, buy the stuff and wolf it down, leading to guilt and disgust of myself. Has anyone here ever experienced this and how did you overcome the temptations?

Thanks Jackie

Thank you for sharing that with me. I will try your suggestions; they seem very helpful. I have a feeling this will be a life long battle with food, but I hope to beat it someday.

Thanks again,
Jackie

Hi, my name is Lisa. It takes a lot to openly admit that. I have struggled thru the years with shame and guilt over it. I struggled with bulimia throughout high school and then it got much worse during my first two years of college.
Living on my own leaves a lot of open room to get away with my bulimic behaviors. I started to try and lose weight in a healthy way. And like you I def. did crave some of my former binge foods or foods that just weren't considered "healthy."
I had a few options of things that worked for me. For quite a while when I wanted to do that I would journal or find something to do with my hands. After a while I would maybe buy some foods that weren't considered super "health" and eat small portions of them instead of binging on them (I know, much easier said than done!).
If you completely deprive yourself of some sweets or salty foods and stick only with super healthy food to me there is a high chance that you might go out and binge again on those foods. So, let yourself enjoy some salty or sweet foods here and there but not a lot.
Stick with it. This isn't something that is going to go away over night.

Take care!
Lisa
