adderall withdrawal problems with weight and energy

by nataliaaislinn, Nov 27, 2007 01:36PM
I have taken adderall (adderrall), about 80-120 mg per day, for 10 years. I have relapsed twice and want to recover for good this time. My main problem is that after one year in recovery, my energy level was still extremely low, and my weight gain was pretty high, despite an extremely healthy diet and running every day. I was a member of AA and attended meeting frequently, but the despair of never regaining my energy back or being able to eat like a normal person, or remotely close, drove me back to the amphetamines. Does anyone have any information on what aids might help with energy and weight, or how long if ever my chemical levels will return to normal. I want to live an honest life again. Thank you.

I HAVE TAKEN THE SAME DOSE FOR ALMOST 2 YEARS (PRESCRIBED BY 2 MDS NOT KNOWING THE OTHER PRESCRIBED THE SAME DOSAGE). I HAVE STOPPED ONLY BECAUSE OF MY FEAR FOR CONSULTING 2 MDs. A MOVIE OF MY DECOMPOSING AND ABUSED BODY HAS PLAYED IN MIND ON SO MANY OCCASIONS BUT EVERYTIME I STOP TAKING THE DRUG I BECOME A SLUG - UNABLE TO KEEP FUNCTIONING FOR MORE THAN A FEW HOURS AT A TIME - HAVE I RUINED MYSELF FOR LIFE??

I'm a bit confused by your post as you don't mention if you have an eating disorder (which is what this board is about). But I'm going to assume you do and that you used amphetamines to control it (as well as other reasons). Those two things often go together.  So I'll answer that first: It takes awhile to regain normal energy levels after you stop amphetamines, but a year should be sufficient. If you are eating in a healthy way and still gaining weight and always tired perhaps you should talk with your doctor about this. Have you had your thyroid checked? Hypothyroidism can lead to weight gain despite healthy eating as well as to low energy and depression.

It sounds like you want to go forward with your recovery, so go back to your meetings and see the doctor to figure out what is going on!
