anorexic?

for about 3 years now, i have been gaining and losing about 5-7 pounds. i am only 17 and im 5'6, 113 pounds and i know i dont need to lose weight. but i was reading books about anorexia and i think like one. i feel guilty when i eat things, so i stick to about 20 grapes for lunch and an apple. and maybe a granola bar for the rest of the day. i cant help it and im so scared to get fat. and i know i will probably get nasty comments saying- "JUST EAT!!" but honestly its not that easy, its not like i can just go to a store and buy a donut and cupcakes and chow down because then i get depressed that i just ate all of those calories. =[ do you think im anorexic? or am i just weight obsessed?

I am the father of a girl that is now in the hospital and suffering from anorexia- what I can tell you is that you are on your way to becoming an anorexic and I would definitely suggest you go for therapy.  I'm far from the expert but these are the signs that my daughter went through.  Do this now before it is too late- you are heading down a dangerous path!!!

As a former anorexic, I can tell you that your line of thinking is definitely consistent with anorexia, as is your BMI.  I would suggest you talk to someone such as a school counselor, or an adult that you trust, before you get deeper into this trap.

Just a point:
"A long time ago there" was no TV, Computers, Cars, etc...
We split wood for heat, pushed a reel lawner instead of riding a mower.
We walked instead of using the car.
We hunted for our food, we didn't buy lots of sugary snacks, etc
Chemicals may be a contributing factor, just not the only factor. JMHO

Start eating organic food and cleanse your body AKA hole foods market health food stores. Calories dont make you fat all the chemicals that make you fat. high fruitose corn syrup MSG apartame Natural flavors and hundreds of more. Just look at the ingredients lable on anything you buy from a super market. Its full of **** thats horrible for your body, Get the natural cures book i think  it will really open your eyes. A long time ago when there were no chemicals in food you bought and we wernt over weight but now that there in are food everyone is overweight nowadays.

Hi rupert I kind of understand what you are saying because I am sort of going through the same thing. I personally think you are just being obsessed with food. That's it. You want to take care of yourself so much that you try hard to eat the perfect foods. All i can say that it could get fustrating some times. I only weight 119lbs, height 5'4 and I only wish i could gain a few extra pounds. It's that when I try everything goes to my lower belly..it's disqusting, so I am always watching what I eat all the time but follow the advice of the experts and I know you will be ok. Have a good one :) God bless!

Pardon me?  An "anorexic doesn't eat and starves themselves but does not realize that they are doing so?"  Completely false.  I really hope that nobody gives you a license to practice.  Anorexia is a serious illness that encompasses a fear of food, a fear of weight gain, and a fear of self.  At a weight of 113 at 5'6 she has a BMI of under 18.  Weight is not really a factor in diagnosing anorexia.  It is a factor in the method of treatment.  Eating disorders are mental disorders for that reason, they are mental.  Being obsessed with weight and food is no way to live.

You may not be anorexic, but you are definetly food obsessed, and that can be its own problem, though not as dangerous, still consumes too much of your conscious thought.  Watching your weight is healthy, and breaking your promise to yourself to eat sensibly is a cause of guilt.  That is normal.  It's the degree that makes a difference.  If it takes too much of your mental energy, think about talking it through with a therapist.

i think that your not anorexic unless youve noticed any physical change in yourself or someone has noticed it before you.

an anorexic doesnt eat and starves themselves but does not realise that they are doing so. in an anorexia sufferers mind they are always fat no matter what. when they look into the mirror they see themselves as FAT!.

just because you may think like an anorexic person does not neccesarily mean you are one.

anorexia is a very serious mental illness.

i dont know if this has helped but im just trying to split the difference between anorexia nervose and weight obsession.
