So I'm having my second laparoscopy in a few weeks. I'm 21. I had my first one when I was 18 and it was a nightmare. The doctor said my endometriosis was 'pretty nasty' and my recovery was too. The surgery was outpatient, so I went home that night at like 6 pm, and I didn't feel ready. I was scared to go home and I was having trouble passing urine (I finally got a little bit) and then once I got home I had trouble managing the pain, nausea, and what seems like side effects from the anesthesia - I couldn't taste anything for two weeks, among other things. I felt really horrible.
Anyways. This time I'm wondering if they're likely to admit me the night following surgery. It's planned at 10 am. I'm having some pain further out than the pelvic area that they think might be related so I plan to give consent for more extensive surgery (as long as it doesn't compromise fertility) if necessary. Given the symptoms I'm having now and the reaction I had to my past surgery, I would actually feel better staying in the hospital overnight, especially those first couple days, my pain really wasn't controlled on narcotic medications and I wasn't eating and I just didn't feel safe or ready to go... anyone have any tips of how I can express these concerns to my doctor and if he will be receptive?
