Endometriosis?

Hi everyone,

I've been reading your posts and replies and wondered whether you might be able to help me?

I'm 21 and for the last year or so, I've been getting painful periods. Nothing majorly painful, but I used to be so lucky and not have any problems, so it's got worse. Then, since the summer, I've had periods bad enough to cause me to need to stay in bed for a day or so. Then, this time, it was so bad. There was a day when I was walking home from my lecture and I thought I would collapse because I was in so much pain.

I've had nausea for about 2 weeks now, and also, the tops of my legs have started to ache and my head hurts. I am so tired I've needed 12 hours' sleep this week, whereas normally I don't even need 8. I've been really thirsty and generally felt 'rubbish' and unable to eat much because that makes the nausea worse.

The Dr told me it was just sever period pain, but I've finished my period now, and if anything, it's got slightly worse. I'm going to see a female Dr next week (if I last that long), but I'm not sure whether I should ask about Endo or IBS?

Can anyone relate to any of this?

Thank you very much :-)

First I would like to say I know how you feel... Second at your age I had no idea why all the pain. I was misdiagnosed for 7 years because I thought it was IBS and 3 different drs told me it was. You need to talk to your Gyno. Have an ultrasound. Push for answers. After all this is your health.

I agree with Vixen...you know your body better then any Dr. can...so if you feel something is wrong then it is...this sounds very suspicious of endometriosis!
It is NOT normal to have such pain with our periods which tells me right there your Dr. is not qualified to help you!
Endometriosis can cause daily pain, nausea and all the symptoms you describe, but unfortunately the only way to diagnose endometriosis is through a laproscopic surgery...so if you decide to do this to confirm it or not...please go to an endometriosis specialist so they can diagnose and excise it all at the same time so you don't have to have multiple symptoms...I was told IBS and by the time I finally got diagnosed I had stage 4 Die (deeply infiltrated) endometriosis...so it's your body and if you feel something is wrong...keep seeking until you get the answers you need to feel better...if a dr. is dismissive find another...I have seen 100's of Dr.'s through the years and am finally getting into the right hands but unfortunately for me the damage is too deep and severe to ever be completely better because of dr.'s blowing me off and mismanaging me...so if one doesn't give you the help you need find another and keep going until you are being listened to and taken care of...Dr.'s are humans practicing medicine and they can't know everything...Be your own best advocate!
