Thanks - I have had 3 TVUS for this cyst and the 2nd one looked to them like a functional cyst with hemorrhage in it and the 3rd looked more like an endometrioma. When I had one of these a couple of years ago the report was similar - endometrioma was diagnosed after it didn't go away (as hemorrhagic cysts typically do).
I guess I was more wondering did anyone ever find out their endometrioma was something other than that (ie/ something worse).
A good RE or gyn/onc should be able to tell you if what they're seeing on the us is an endometrioma or simple cyst, they have very different attributes. An endometrioma usually doesn't have free moving fluid inside it, the best way I can describe it is that its kind of the consistency of pudding, not water, like a normal functioning cyst. A transvaginal ultrasound will give a better picture than an abdominal ultrasound, so if you have a choice ask for a TVUS, it's uncomfortable but bearable.
thanks for getting back to me! i've read that ultrasounds are good for diagnosing these but that they're often confused with hemorrhagic cysts.
Im waiting for find out the same thing! I had one diagnosed on my U/S last month. It wasnt diagnosed at my OBGYN but my PCP sent the report over to him. Im assuming he is taking a wait and see approach cause he didnt even call me about it. In the meantim Im going to see a Reproductive Endocrinologist next month. Hopefully he can figure out what is wrong with me!
