help for endo

Hi, I had a 5cm cyst which burst last year. I was on contraceptives for some months but to no effect. The cyst resurfaced with normal periods and burst. Eventually I was diagnozed with endometriosis with 3 small chocolate cysts in left ovary. I was again put on oral contraceptives for 2 months which has regressed my cysts for now. But my doc has advised me to get married and conceive as soon as possible as it might effect fertility. Also, I belong to a very conservative society where discussion about all such things are still closed door and pre marital sex is a taboo. So doctor can't really check other reproductive organs of an unmarried girl. Only non surgical option is an abdomenal usg which detects only ovarian cysts. I have been advised to continue oral contraceptives till I want to concieve. Then the doc will perform a laparoscopy. I want to know what are possible side effects of such meds if I continue those for 3-4 years?? How Badly it can effect my health?  I have migraine issue as well, although the non aura migraine.
I don't want to really marry and concieve at this age. It will interfere with my career. I am just 24 yr old.

Yes only the regular pelvic area usg is allowed. Thanks for the info. I will consult my doc with regards to surgery as even after taking the pills for more than 2 months, pain is there. Sometimes its excruciating.
The doc also mentioned that pregnancy is a natural treatment for endo. Is it true? I doubt it becoz it defies logic. If pregnancy could do it. Then prob 2-3 years of bcps can also cure this.

Also, can multiple operations be risky? The doctor will be eventually operating on reproductive organs and operation can damage them right?
Thanks. :-). Me parents are kind of forcing me to get married early and concieve immdtly. It was a relief talking and finding some inspiration.

Okay so from what I am hearing anything going into the vagina is a no? So you are not allowed to have a transvaginal ultrasound just a regular over the pelvic area ultrasound? The Endometrioma that burst inside you has spread the disease all throughout your pelvic area on your organs.

Here is the thing. Endometriosis does not go away nor does the pill help it go away. It helps shrink cysts but if they are Endometriomas they will not go away on their own. They have to be surgically removed. If you have Endometriosis then surgery is your only option if you are in pain if its against your religion to do that then that will be something you have to live with unfortunately.

Birth control pills taken continuously with no breaks will stop the period and pain but not always.

When it comes to fertility there is a possibility that you are infertile now but the thing with Endometriosis and fertility is that ever single person is different and there is no way to tell if you will or if you are infertile.

I was stage IV Endometriosis and I conceived however there are women who are only stage I and cannot.

I respect your choice/religion as to not have premarital sex or have a baby now that is your values and I understand that however Endometriosis isn't something that is sexual, it isn't something to be taken lightly at all. You will need surgery to remove it that is the only way to help stop the growth. Some women have had multiple surgeries because there are not that many Endometriosis surgeons. I have known a women to have 26 surgeries because of this disease.

I have been on the continuous BCP for 7 yrs since my first surgery. Side effects I have had his severe vaginal drying that mimics Vuvodynia  (SP?)

It took away my migraines as I had them since I was 15 and have not had one since being on the pill, but everyone is different. Usually they say if you have migraines you shouldnt be on the pill, but I have to be so that is something you will have to look into further if its too risky or not for you.

If you are not in pain and don't suffer and are not ready to settle down and get married then the choice for you is to leave it, keep taking the BCP and hope that when it is time to conceive that you are able to.

I hear what you are saying but it upsets me at the same time because this disease is not something that can be brushed under the rug. I suffered undiagnosed for 14 yrs and I have major organ damage to my bladder, ureters, uterus and bowels, nothing can fix that because it took too long to be diagnosed and I was operated on too late.

Please think about this and what is important because in the end if you do nothing your quality of life will suffer.
