Could this be EBV or Mono?

I am a 23 year old male, and I have been having some weird symptoms lately.  I haven't been to my doctor yet, I will probably be going next week if symptoms continue.  I am 6'0, 175 lbs, I stay in good physical shape.  I haven't had the flu since highschool, and I haven't strep throat since highschool.  I believe I have very mild allergies and they are not a problem.  I do tend to get colds every once in a while.

My symptoms:  About a month ago I started to get a sore throat.  It was only ever sore when I swallowed.  It did not hurt one bit when I talked or ate or drank anything.  I finally looked at my throat and my tonsils were looked much larger than they should be.  They also had some white spots on them.  At first I thought tonsilitis but the white spots went away after a couple days, and the tonsils stayed larger than normal.  I just took ibuprofen for the pain and it went away after a week.

Now a few days ago I noticed that one of my lymph glands was swollen very large, the one below my chin in the mid-chain area next to the major tendon on the left side of my neck.  Another one on the same side is also swollen, about 2 inches below the bottom of my left ear.  This one is pretty small but it is swollen.  The one below my chin is at least 2 cm in length, probably a bit over an inch and it is visible by sight, not just touching my neck.  Yesterday the same soar throat came back, but only the left tonsil is enlarged, the same side as the swollen lymph nodes.

My question is, could this be related to EBV?  I have no other symptoms, no fatigue, no fever that I know of, and overall healthy besides what I described.

Hi,

I am 25 and in good shape. A few weeks ago I had a cold and the sore throat stayed with me. about 10 days ago I have felt extremily lightheaded. To the point I went to the emergency room. I really have no other symptoms except for lightheadedness, and very tired. Not sure if I am tired because of the lightheadedness or not. All I know is my life is on halt till this gets better. Does Mono or the virus make you very lightheaded? Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Hey man, I just read your two posts and in my opinion, it all seems EBV/ Mono related.  I have walked in your shoes....being fit, exercising many days a week, and then suddenly having weird symptoms in the body....swollen lymph nodes, and ending up going to the E.R.  I freaked out a little also when I had the numbness come upon my body...I felt it in my face...lips, my arms....legs....and it was something mild that came and gone on its own for several weeks.  Have you experienced any twitching in your arm...any uncontrolled pulsing in the body? That is a sign of the virus disturbing the nuerological system a little.  Besides the lymph nodes swelling, I have felt lightheadness, and fatigue....chest irritation/ pain, and some other mild symptoms.  I'm 25, and it took a while for all these symptoms to catch up to me....maybe it will take even longer for you, or maybe you won't even get some of mine.
I'm not sure how much help I can give you, because my doctor has not helped me much  and I will soon switch doctors.  If you have the medical insurance, and the time, go ahead and test for other viruses that might generate the same symptoms that you have.  Perhaps you have EBV or even more than that.  EBV and Mono are one in the same, but MONO is the label when the virus is more agressive in the beginning.....but EBV seems to be mild in the beginning, but it longers in the body....sometimes chronicly.  But do more research on both terms.  I'm surprised that EBV can harm the body with so many symptoms, but yes....I say this because some people get tested for numerous STD"s and other diseases, and they learn that they just come up positive for EBV.  Good luck dude...and if you want to stay in contact, email me at this site anytime.
