Consequences of not exercising

Hi,

I have a few questions I would like answered about NO exercise and the consequences on your body.

My father, for the past approx. 4 years has done close to NO exercise. Reasons are extensive but that is a different issue itself.

He does not have breakfast or lunch. Dinner is enough for 3 people (food is generally good but in excess). His job is at home and on the computer, and only gets out of the house 1 day a week (minimal walking).

He understands the issues of no/lack of exercise (reduction of muscle, weight gain, reduced fitness etc) but does not think he has any greater chance of getting a disease of some sort. I have tried to say that the fact that he does not exercise will affect his heart and lungs. He is adamant that if yearly blood results come up fine, it’s okay, and will only make changes if the blood results return with issues.

What I am after is a medical opinion of the situation, and what diseases, if any, will he have a greater chance of getting.

Any help will be kindly appreciated,

Regards,

Michael.

Hello!

Tell him to go ahead for the lipid profile.

If he has values above normal and along with it sedentary lifestyle with a BMI of 35.4 is a high risk for cardiovascular diseases. Get his fasting blood sugar done and motivate him for physical exercise.

Sit with him and plan a diet chart with high fiber food and minimum fat and simple carbohydrate and protein. Tell him to avoid fast foods and junk foods.

Take care!

Hello!

I would suggest you to measure his height and weight and also calculate his BMI. If his BMI is higher than 25 then get his lipid profile done and if all indicators are normal there is nothing to worry.

Some form of physical exercise for 2 times in a week is sufficient. He can do so many things himself at home like cleaning things around, yoga, dusting, playing with children, cooking, doing dishes which are sufficient.

Take care!
