Sporadic Calf Muscle Soreness and Stiffness in both legs at once

I am not sure if anyone has experienced this.. for the past 6 months I have been experiencing a sore tightness in both of my calf muscles sporadically. It does not seem to be related to exercise since I can go for a run and feel nothing... but then I can be sitting and all of a sudden my calves (always both at the same time) start to ache and feel tight. Sometimes they feel so sore that I can almost not walk. Water seems to help on occasions. I can't understand why all of a sudden I may be becoming dehydrated so that doesn't seem logical...

The aches come and go without warning and sometimes it's much worse than other times. There have also been times when I may not experience any aching for several days.

My doctor, general practitioner, has no explanation. I am thinking that I need to see someone else... any ideas? Endocrinologist?

Any ideas would be great.

Oh my goodness. this information is overwhelming-from disorders to diabetic symptoms to vitamin deficiencies.
These are my exact symptoms-first step when i get out of bed-i want to totally scream and cry!  My calves are so tight that massages two days in a row were unsuccessful. my massage therapist was blown away by how tight the skin and muscles were-even commenting she was afraid to tear my muscles by digging in any deeper.  i've soaked in epsom salts-elevate my legs onto a pillow before bed with a heat pad-even tried lower back and glute massages to try loosening muscles in legs.  I am not getting any relief-the burning sensation is intensifying-some cramping in my feet-but it's mostly the tight very sensitive to the touch calf muscles.  i haven't over exurted-no illnesses-no change in diet.  i'm scared to contact a doctor seeing that so many do not have a certain diagnosis.

I have very painful tightness and burning sensations on the outer sides of both my calfs when i walk, I had to do alot of my own thinking to find a solution, if any of you have high arches in your feet this may be the cause. It turned out i was walking more on the outside of my feet my whole life causing irregular muscle function. A pair of specialized orthotic shoes helped this problem dramaticly. I hope this helps at least one of you, and good luck

I am having the exact same thing, They are thinking it is FM. I am 20 years old and have been dealing with this for over a year. It first started when I was diagnosed with Crohns disease. Cant find out anything that helps and now they are thinking that Narcotic pain killer is the best way to go. I have an extremely high tolerance for them so this is scary if anyone knows anything please let me know.

HORMONES.
Hormones leave the body through the toes. Wierd but true.
It travels down the legs to do so.
I was getting hormone injections and then started getting the same pain as the majority. Doc didnt link the problem. She thought it was unrelated.
3 month of calf pain and then i stopped taking the injections and the pain gradually went away.
my condition is called hypothyroidism.
I pretty much dont have enough hormones and this was boosting my levels..
Get your hormones checked out.
Im starting the injections next week again after 1 year without.
will post in a month to see how im going.

Comments about anxiety are not helpful.  Do you not think these people who are truly physically suffering are not contending with enough without your useless comments.  The physical pain often causes anxiety, but most often it is NOT the root.  Have some empathy!
