Torn Bicep Tendon

Torn Bicep Tendon

I tore my left bicep tendon completely off the bone 7 weeks ago. This was confirmed in a scan, and surgery was recommended as the only option which would provide a full recovery. The timeline is approx 10 days post trauma to have the operation - you have a short window of opportunity to avoid complications regarding scarring, tendon reattachment and extension of the arm. The op was less than an hour, done correctly by drilling through the bone. Choose your Orthopod surgeon wisely!!!! Post op was 3 weeks in a sling, followed by physio 2 x week. This is extremely important as it allows the scar tissue to be laid down in the correct manner, weeks 3 - 12 post op. I have made the correct decision by going for the op, I am 42 years old - 92 kgs, gym 3x a week, with the occasional golf, surf, mountain bike and road bike twice a month.

Hello!

Yes, for complete tear you have to go for surgery as there is no scope for conservative treatment or wait and watch.

You have to avoid infections and after proper healing and after getting a go ahead from your orthopedician you can start physiotherapy.

Take care!
