Can I do sit-ups with an abdominal hernia?

I am a 25 year old mother of 3. I am in decent shape, meaning I am not over weigh. I have an abdominal hernia that is about 2 inches that causes occasional pain. I am pretty active, usually in the warm months and since being diagnosed as having a hernia I do not want to do anything to make it any bigger. After exercising my hernia doesn't feel any different. I haven't found out what makes it poke out and become painful but exercising doesn't seem to. I've also heard that if it doesn't hurt than it probably isn't a problem. Will sit-ups help or hurt my hernia?

Hello;   I am 57 years old and have an abdominal hernia. I also have cirrocis of the liver and was told that surgery would hurt my liver, so the doctors want me to live with this hernia. I had a cat scan while lying on my back and the doctor said the hernia is very small. I tried to tell them that when I stand up, it is much larger and pertrudes about the size of an apple! They don't respond and dismiss this FACT, for some odd reason.

Is there any way I can self heal this hernia? I am thinking I should ask my doctor to send me for pyhsical therapy. Am I on the right track?

I had a hernia removal 2 months ago, I don't think they had to put a mesh. But now I have a hernia again n the same place. Can I run and help make it go away? When I eat, it pokes out more.

I am 26 yrs old male. I don't remember exactly when I got the hernia but I can think like around 8 to 9 yrs ago and I completely neglected it or i was scared of surgery. At the age of 20 or so my right scrotum is used swll little bit when I stand for long time or when I play for long and I used put the hernia back in. for the past 3 or 4 yrs it's not swelling much even though I play for long time(3 to 4 hrs continuously).I know i have to go for surgery to fix this but I wanted to get physically fit I mean I am looking to go out for gym for next 6 months or so and make my body bit strong as I am very thin now. So when do I need to go for surgery before or after the gym workouts. some people say that you can't go to workouts after the surgery for 1 year or so if that is the case then can I go for around 6 months of gym and then get the surgery done. Totally confused......! Plese suggest.
