My body will not behave

I noticed about 5 months ago that i was too heavy so i decided to do something about it. I'm  34, 6'6" Tall and when i started I was 282lbs with 29% body fat.
I decided to do everything right. I went to a dietitian who put me on a 30/30/40 eating plan. My friend is a physical trainer so he set me up with a workout schedule. I go to the gym 5 days a week every morning before work for an hour (i can't do longer or i get stuck in rush hour). I split this hour 50/50 between cardio (mostly running on the treadmill) and weightlifting.
I have now kept up this routine (changing up the cardio and weight activities) for 5 months.
I have a fitness review at my gym at the end of every month, Now that i am 5 months in, I weigh 290 (increase of 8 lbs) and my bodyfat % has gone up to 30.6%. Apart from that almost NOTHING has changed apart from the fact that i'm lifting heavier weights and have much better cardio. But thats not the point, i wanted to trim down.
My trainer at the gym is baffled, i have no clue. It seems i'm doing everything right.
My mothers side of the family almost all have Thyroid problems either hyper or hypo. I got so flustered with this gym thing i just got a blood test today to see if there is something wrong with me.

I could really use any advice i could get right now guys. I'm really disheartened. I'm working so hard with little result.

Thanks for the responce Dr Smita,

I get a body comp test done once a month. My weight gain has been 2lbs muscle and 6lbs fat (and thats after 5 months). Also all my measurements are staying the same....almost no change. I get chest, waist, hips, bicep and calves done.

I maintain a food chart for my nutritionist so i can stay at 30/30/40.
The people on the biggest loser show probably burn about as much as me and they are restricted to 1500 calories a day. I wasn't losing with 1500 (did that for 2 months) so i upped it to 2500 just in case i was starving myself. Still no results.
My BMR is 2700+my working out so i'm still in a calorie deficit.

Any other ideas other than those? I think i had those covered.
If it is my thyroid are there medications i can take to get it under control and help me lose weight?

Hi.

First of all I would advise you not to get too panicky. This kind of anomaly is seen in many persons on some exercise programs. Any weight loss programme requires lots of patience and consistent efforts.

You should first determine if what you're gaining is actually fat or muscle. Muscle has more density than fat. So, even if you gain muscle mass, you might observe an increase in weight. Also the rate at which you are gaining muscle mass might be greater than the rate of loss in body fat.  Hence, you should not entirely depend on a weighing scale to assess your progress.

You should get your body fat regularly tested along with taking measurements of your chest, waist, hips, arms and thighs. If you are losing inches, it is definitely a good indication.

Even if you realize that you are gaining fat, there are certain options you can explore. You should closely monitor your calories intake. There should be balanced intake. Both too much and too little calorie intake can be counterproductive. Perhaps you should be maintaining a food chart for yourself.

You have not mentioned about your thyroid test results. They are an important factor as you are hereditarily predisposed. You should consult your doctor for a complete medical examination to rule out any other medical conditions as well.

You may keep us posted about your thyroid status for further information.

Regards
